Hello 202Love Fam!
Hope all is well. I wanted to do a quick check in and let you know what we have been doing since last month. Since you make it possible for us to do these things, it's only right you know what's going on. Check out what we have been doing!
Girls That S.P.A.R.K Lunch- The girls got together for lunch and fellowship out at the The Boardwalk in Granite Park in Frisco. We did a recap of the foundations of the program - Self, Purpose, Action, Responsibility and Knowledge. They remembered key parts and enjoyed catching up with each other. We had a dessert run to Tiff's Treats and they got together and did a few Tik Tok dances. They wouldnt let me join in. I am sure it's because they knew I would do better than them! A few people stopped and asked who we were because they noticed the shirts. We were glad to tell them and create more awareness about the girls and 202Love.
Girls That S.P.A.R.K SERVE! - Serving others is a huge part of this program. They know their SPARK isn't just for themselves. It is for them to share with others. A couple of Saturdays ago, they joined other organizations to help Feed the City. The girls were a part of the group and made over 5,000 sandwiches that would be distributed to those in need on that day! Your donations purchased the items for the sandwiches. The girls then asked if they could do lunch together at a nearby restaurant. If you have ever worked with teen girls, you know how HUGE that is. These girls have bonded and really like being with each other. I count this as a huge accomplishment for the program because creating a safe space for the girls is the foundation. That allows them to be able to learn, grow and have experiences together. That's what we want to see!
Here's what's coming up next!
S.P.A.R.K TALK! We will gather the girls for a check in. I previously asked the girls to submit any questions/topics they want to cover. They were able to submit these anonymously. We'll cover those in this session. We'll also spend time on self esteem, mental health and relationships-family and friends. Lunch will be served.
S.P.A.R.K. and the Arts- The girls will be going to see the Espresso Nutcracker, given by the Dallas Black Dance Theatre. SHHH, it's a surprise! They dont know yet but I can't wait for them to experience this together. We have a few dancers in the group so I know this will be great for them as well as the others. Exposure is key because it shows what could be. It shows what's out there and helps them to expand their minds and their dreams!
S.P.A.R.K Spa Day- This will be a Zoom call. Each girl will be sent a self care skin kit. We'll do a little skin care and check in to see how the girls are doing.
This is what we have on the books right now through December. I am currently looking at ways to help our community during the holidays. Send me suggestions if you have any! January and February will be packed with sessions on etiquette, money and careers as well as their graduation and closing events. More to come on that soon.
So you see, we have a lot planned for the girls. Please continue to support and spread the word so we can keep doing the work and give them the best experience and help them do what we say- navigate their today and prepare for their tomorrow.
